Web Gratitute Day?

Web Gratitute Day?

Today is the World Gratitude Day. It has been created by The United Nations Meditation Group. Its purpose is to express appreciation for the great things that individuals and groups do on a global basis. In our business, web hosting we should be grateful to individuals who has significant impact on WWW development. Because the World Wide Web is very much this field of activity that drives globalism ahead. See who do we thing the web should say “Than you”!

Joseph Carl Robnett Licklider

Joseph Carl Robnett Licklider or J.C.R. (March 11, 1915 – June 26, 1990) is one of the most important figures in computer science and computing history.

Lawrence G. Roberts

Lawrence G. Roberts received the Draper Prize in 2001 for the development of the Internet along with Leonard Kleinrock, Robert Kahn, and Vinton Cerf. He led the creation of ARPANET, the first significant implementation of Leonard Kleinrock’s theories on packet switching[1] and a predecessor to the modern Internet.

Sir Tim Berners-Lee

Sir Tim Berners-Lee is a British scientist who has created the World Wide Web (WWW) in 1989 and released in 1992. Since then he plays an active role in guiding the development of Web standards. In recent years has advocated his vision of a Semantic Web.

Tim Berners-Lee implemented the first successful communication between an HTTP client and server via the Internet (25 December 1990) together with Robert Cailliau.

Linus Torvalds (Mr. Linux)

The Finnish software engineer Linus Benedict Torvalds is only 39 year old but he’s invention earned him a honourable place in the world’s history, not only in its technology part. He has initiated the development of the Linux kernel and became the chief architect of the Linux OS.

We wouldn’t be Linux web hosting without the invention of Mr. Torvalds.

Richard Stallman

Richard Stallman launched the GNU Project 25 years ago, in September 1983 to create a free Unix-like operating system. He started the free software movement with the launch of the GNU Project, and in October 1985 he set up the Free Software Foundation.

Richard Stallman pioneered the concept of copyleft. He is the main author of several copyleft licenses including the GNU General Public License, the most widely used free software license.

Jamie Zawinski

Jamie Zawinski is the one who did a lot for web browsers we use. Known as JWZ, he is a computer programmer responsible for significant contributions to the creation of Mozilla and XEmacs, as well as for the early versions of the Netscape. If there were not guys like him we would be now paying at least $60 per year to use Internet Explorer.

Sure “Google” (Larry Page & Sergey Brin)

Google has many haters, but much more fans. Anyone praises the Search Engine when it ranks their website top, and curses it when the website goes out top 100 websites on some “important keywords”. Google however is just a private company that did a lot for the globalization and to the open access to information and data. We have to thank GOogle founders andto admit they deserve all the money have made and the appreciation of Internet users.

Microsoft and Mr. Gates

Yes I know that I said that Microsoft would charge you today for the use of IE, but everyone would charge us something if they have a product we want to use. Microsoft influenced the development of modern computer science so much (and still leads it), that it is hard to compare it with someone.

There are many other people who we have to thank. Do this today on your blog or website!
