Domain ID Shield. Do You Need one?
If you have already read Host Color’s latest news, you already know that we launched a domain name privacy product named “Domain ID Shield”. It is available with any web hosting service plan and costs only $1.95 per year. A fair price, isn’t it?
The domain shield allows any domain registrant to protect (hide) their contacts that normally appear when Internet users search in “Who Is” database. The contacts for the web address (domain name) that usually include the name of domain owner, their physical address, zip or postal code, e-mail, and phone number are replaced with informations such as “Whois Privacy Protection Service”, followed by the contacts of the “Who Is” protection service provider.
The “Domain ID Shield” allows the domain registrant to hide behind the service provider. Of course the registrant still needs to provide correct address for the domain ownership and administration, however this information is not available for public use.
Why we charge $1.95 to protect privacy?
You can see that some other web hosting companies offer it between $2.50 and $5 per year. We have also seen that some website service providers claim to offer domain privacy protection at no cost. Our research shows however that almost any web business that claims to provide something for “free” or “lifetime” either counts on overselling or is a part of quick money-making scheme. As far as the previous two refer to unreliability we prefer to be honest with our customers and to tell them the truth - that every single website service or product, including the “Domain ID Shield” cost something.

This requires hard workand a lot of expertise, which means that all the quality products and services cost something. They might be on a budget, but still cost something.
There is another thing that anyone should calculate when they consider using “Domain ID Shield” or any other domain privacy product. The “Who Is” protection as this type of service is also known is a value added service. Anyone who wants to conceal their identity has a very good reson to do this. Sometimes this because website owners want to protect their home or business address from public use.
But there are thousands of people who register domains, use them for commercial purposes and benefit from hiding thier identity. This is very common in web hosting, a business where make people create a fake websites to either promote themselves or their own products and services. That’s why we think that the domain privacy products should be a paid service. But Host Color want is to make sure that all services we offer thrugh our corporate website are affordable. That’s it.
