New SMF 2.0 Release Candidate 3 now available for download
The third iteration of the Simple Machines Forum (SMF) version 2.0’s release candidate (RC) series is finally out and now available for download. This release has seen 350 changes from the previous version ranging from bug fixes and minor interface tweaks to fine-tuning of the new “Curve” theme.
The highlights of this release include better compatibility with RTL languages, improved read tracking of topics, tweaks to the WYSIWYG editor, redesigned profile statistics center, and improvements to the package manager’s archive extraction algorithm, among many others.
The release of SMF 2 RC3 was overwhelmingly greeted with warm congratulations by the SMF user community where many who have tried the package expressed that “RC3 feels very polished and finished over RC2.” Others also signaled their desire to continue use the older SMF 1.1.11 version as they wait for the next major version.
The SMF development team has encouraged users who currently use the previous RC versions to update their installation as the RC3 brings several important security fixes. Themes and custom modifications made for the previous versions should continue work or should require little work for them to work with RC3.
The development team also noted that while they consider SMF RC3 without any significant problems, they are still working hard to find minor bugs and to fix them to come up with a full 2.0 version in the future. Users may not consider RC3 a stable version and may not install the release for production environments.
SMF is a free, professional grade web application and is recognized to be one of the most widely-used Internet forum software package written in PHP and mainly powered by MySQL database. You may download the latest release at this link: http://download.simplemachines.org/
